Re: New york
If you're going to the Empire State Building, go early and beat the big queues. Or go to the top of the rock, so you can SEE the Empire State Building.

Take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge as well.

Re: New york
Circle line tour (boat trip round the island / statue of liberty.. do the 2 hour tour, not the full circle)
Get a subway to Brooklyn heights, get pizza and walk back over the bridge

Do not bother going up statue of liberty

Re: New york

Staten island ferry

It’s free, and goes past the Statue of Liberty

Re: New york
Don't know your thoughts on military history, but the USS Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum (basically a World War 2 aircraft carrier), is an excellent visit, if you like that sort of thing.

On a separate note, depending on how busy you want to be the Sight Seeing Flex Pass, is good value and fast tracks you through queues

Re: New york
I'm doing the same in November.

I've been asking around, and apart from all the usual things, Grand Central station has been recommended as an impressive place to vist.

Considering these passes (for 4 or 5 days). Anyone have any view on whether or not they're worthwhile?

Re: New york
Don't bother with ground zero or any other 9/11 handwringing bollocks, it's boring and full of miserable cunts. As already said beat the queues up the Empire State Building because they are fucking tedious, brilliant once you're up there though. Do the open top bus tour. Statue of Liberty was also boring as it took so fucking long to get there. Quite good to see once you're there but a bit underwhelming. Go to the basketball, you might get a preseason game next week, either Knicks or Nets are bound to be playing.

I think Westside has just answered my question about the passes.

Cheers!

Re: New york
Go to the Basketball it's a good evening out. You have to do a Broadway show! We done the Bronx Zoo which was decent. Interesting walk from the Subway through the Bronx! Was advised to go up the Rockefeller as is meant to be easier to get in and out! Done the boat tour where you see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island etc but the boat didnt stop! Central Park for a walk around..Horse and Cart was a rip off and not worth it

Re: New york
Friend told me that the Empire State is good in the evening. Much quieter and a different nightime view of NY.

Re: New york
My recommendation is to stay away from Times Sq as much as possible.

Also.

Walk everywhere. You see a hell of a lot in Manhattan just walking around.

Do the Highline.

Get a boat tour round the island and do it at night.

Ellis Island is well worth a visit.

The 9/11 memorial is pretty special.

Get up the top of the Empire States building.

Walk down Bleeker St and get some grub.

Re: New york
John's on Blecker street for the best pizza in NYC
Katz's deli for a pastrami sandwich corner of East Huston street and Ludlow (not a trip to NY without one)
Morgenstern's on Rivington for the best Ice cream.

In fact, a good walk around the lower east side is a must.

Re: New york
I couldn't disagree with vexed more. Go visit 9/11 site.

Also Madison Square garden tour is good
